Medical Treatment for Cervical Dysplasia
Getting rid of HPV is difficult. Even if the entire cervix is burned using Loop Electrosurgical Excisional Procedure (LEEP) or frozen (cryosurgery), generally the virus will still remain. The purpose of LEEP and cryosurgery is to remove or kill abnormal cells on or around the cervix before they can develop into cancer. These surgical procedures are aimed at destroying the unhealthy tissue that has been affected by HPV.
Preventing HPV A vaccine that prevents the development of cervical precancerous lesions and non-invasive cervical cancers associated with HPV is now available. In the UK, the vaccine is administered in private clinics and will be available for routine vaccination on the NHS by Autumn 2008. In Australia, the vaccine is administered free of charge to females aged between 12 and 26. Consult your doctor for more advice.
