Diagnosing Fibroids

Medical tests for diagnosing Fibroids

  • Assessment including case history
  • Physical examination
  • Ultrasound/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Hysteroscopy.


    Recommended Naturopathic Testing

    • Saliva Adrenal Hormone test measuring cortisol and DHEA
    • Saliva female hormone panel including estrone, estradiol, estriol, progesterone, and testosterone
    • Serum (blood) expanded female hormonal panel, including testosterone and luteinising hormone (LH) to follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) ratio
    • Glucose tolerance test
    • Thyroid panel
    • Blood lipid profile (cholesterol and triglycerides).


    Medical Treatments for Fibroids

    Having a fibroid does not necessarily mean it will be treated via medical or surgical means. It depends on size and the growth rate.

    Medical management includes anti-inflammatory and pain medication; surgery; hormone treatment such as progesterone, the oral contraceptive pill, GnRH agonists and D&C.
